Spine Surgeon, Dr. Choll Kim explains how new advancements in techniques and technology have led to spine surgery through smaller and smaller incisions. Surgery causes tissue damage, and the more tissue damage leads to more pain and loss of function, so reducing tissue damage in surgery leads to better function and less pain. Viewers will hear from Dr. Kim, Dr. Steven Garfin, Chair of UCSD Spine Surgery, and two patients who had minimally invasive procedures. Sylvia, had an endoscopic laser discectomy. And Tammi had a spine fusion. Series: MDTV (Medical Doctor Television) [9/2008] [Health and Medicine] [Show ID: 15120]

@detox96
ever considered chiropractic? a no-brainer. should have done that first before you let someone open you up.
Thank you! I am waiting for spine surgery to correct scoliosis and replace discs L1 – L5 and spinal fusion. I have been frightened. My surgeon has explained MISS but I had to try visualise. This video has made me feel much calmer. I went to theatre for the surgery in Aug. and wheeled out again because a tumour was found on my lung. That saved my life. surgery on the lung days later and I have recovered now for spine surgery. I hope I get a date soon as I am in screaming pain. Thanks again
boring
yes because they our having patients out patient and not tied to the hospitals. So they charge alot of money for surgery and LSI did horrible job in FL. Thus, really review your MRI reports in detail further deciding to head to one of the Dr’s to take money and not provide quality care.
What nerve is damaged? Nerve root?
interesting video though I know alot about surgery since i had laser spine surgery done at Laser Spine Institute in Tampa, FL which failed on lumber back l4, l5, S1 and neck surgery. I could of been awake during the surgery however chosen to have local anastict. I was out the same day I had the surgery and only stayed one week out patient surgery. I now have nerve damage due to damage to the tissue on S1, which is unbearable. What treatments are left?
relatively. a mill a year for a good one?
This was very informative. My wife is having surgery today on her L5. This video has answered alot of questions that I had. I will show this to her. I think she will also find this very informative.
That was so incredible…all the technology that has improved to make spinal surgery less invasive, and painful…Dr. kim and all the inventors of these technologies have truly helped so many people. I would like to see also, steps taken in preventative care of the spine…life changes, exercises, nutrition and other means to preserve our spines as long as possible…this would be helpful too!

Are Spine surgeons rich?
Very informative. I might have to break my back just to see if these procedures are really what they say they are.
Interesting. I would like to see some more info on this.
